Deadline for Payments to Holocaust Survivors Fast Approaches

The deadline for applications to the Supplemental Hardship Fund is fast approaching and the AJR is reaching out to any Holocaust survivors who may be eligible for these additional payments.

97-year-old Holocaust survivor, Kurt Marx, is one of many who the AJR has assisted to receive these compensation payments from The Claims Conference. A long standing AJR member, Kurt Marx commented: “I was pleased to receive two payments of €1200 each (around £2.000). With the ever-increasing cost of living and the energy crisis I am grateful to the AJR for helping me to apply.”

The Claims Conference estimates that approximately 240,000 survivors will be eligible for the additional payment. Applications must be submitted by survivors, not heirs. However, if an eligible survivor passes away after an application form is received and registered by the Claims Conference, the surviving spouse may be entitled to payment. If there is no surviving spouse, the (child)ren of the eligible survivor may be entitled. No other heirs are eligible.

Rosemary Peters, Claims and Pensions Advisor for the AJR, said, “If you received a payment from the Kindertransport Fund in 2019/2020 or from the Hardship Fund but have not received a Supplemental Hardship Fund form from the Claims Conference, please contact us as soon as possible as you may be eligible for the Supplemental payments.

“Holocaust refugees and survivors who have never applied for compensation should also contact us as soon as possible.  New applicants to the Hardship Fund will be eligible for the additional two Supplemental Hardship Fund payments as long as their compensation application form is received by the Claims Conference by 31 December 2022.”
