THE AJR AS LEGAL ADVISER. On the whole, refugees in this country, share the legal problems of the ordinary citizen, e.g., in tenancy matters. But owing to the exceptional position of the Jews from Germany, dispersed all over the world, there are additional problems of a more international character, which cause a particular headache. As a rule, legal advice costs money. Yet, to all those Jewish refugees who cannot afford paying a fee, the AJR, from their inception, have given legal advice free of charge. For this purpose, special Legal Advice Hours are being held at the Head Office of the AJR, Wednesdays, from 5 to 6.30 p.m., and Sundays, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, and virtually all Jewish refugee lawyers, barristers, solicitors and consultants in international law, have been helping in this useful work over quite a number of years. Every Jewish refugee, whether AJR member or not, who is unable to pay for legal advice, may be certain that he will be given rfhe most careful attention. It must, however, be made clear that the AJR had lo give an assurance to the Law Society to the effect that no one but a poor person (in the sense of the law) is entitled to receive legal help free of charge. Therefore, people who do not come under that category will certainly understand our position, to which we and the members of our panel are bound by professional reasons. There are, however, no such restrictions with regard to the other advisory activities of the AJR. Old Age Pensions.
