New Funds for Luxembourg Holocaust Survivors

The Claims Conference has announced a new €1 million fund to provide one-time cash payments to Luxembourg Holocaust survivors following an agreement signed between the Luxembourg government with the Jewish Community of Luxembourg, World Jewish Restitution Organization (WJRO), and Luxembourg Foundation for the Remembrance of the Shoah:

Eligible for a payment are applicants who were persecuted as a Jew by the Nazi regime or their allies at any time from January 1933 to May 1945 AND currently meet one of the following three criteria:
1. Currently living in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg;
2. Persecuted in Luxembourg by the Nazi regime or their allies and currently living outside of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg;
3. Persecuted outside of Luxembourg by the Nazi regime or their allies but stayed in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg at any time from January 1933 to May 1945.

An applicant must be alive at the time of submitting the application. In the event an application is approved and the applicant passes away after the submission of the application, the legal successor(s) who contact the Claims Conference within the appropriate time period and provide the required documentation will be entitled to the appropriate portion of the payment. Each eligible applicant will receive an equal payment, which will be made in two instalments: 50% of the estimated final payment amount will be made within a few weeks after the above deadline; the second and final instalment is expected to be made by the end of December 2021. Heirs of survivors that would have met the above criteria are not eligible. The application deadline is 15 October 2021.
