Computer Help
A team of volunteers who are dedicated to helping our members keep up with the digital age.
The team currently helps around 50 AJR members with their computers, tablets and mobile phones on a regular basis.
Simplicity is the key. The SPF computers present users with a stripped-down version of Microsoft Windows which has just five simple choices: calling, email, web browser, Zoom and news, although more choices can be added. These functions allow users to do pretty much everything they need to, without bombarding them with unnecessary options and information. The screens are all operated by touch, making them very easy for people who are unfamiliar with keyboards and computer mice.
AJR volunteers come to member’s homes to help them learn to use their computers effectively. The volunteers – who range in age from 16 to over 60 – are all trained by AJR and provided with detailed checklists of what to cover. Service users are also given a separate helpline number, operated by Natpoint, which they can call anytime they need technical support.
“Thank you so much for everything – a wonderful organisation! Even a phone call on my 80th birthday! What value – interesting zoom sessions, yoga and exercise classes and social get-togethers”.
