Baddiel & Lucas discuss German citizenship

The AJR, in partnership with The Wiener Holocaust Library and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in London, presented an evening with David Baddiel and Matt Lucas to explore the perspectives of descendants of German-Jewish refugees on acquiring German citizenship.

Held at Westminster Synagogue on 19 January 2023, and in front of a packed audience, the discussion was both meaningful and informative with, of course, a few laughs along the way, and expertly moderated by historian and author, Karina Urbach.

David Baddiel is second-generation – his mother was a child refugee from Nazi Germany. David is in the process of applying for German citizenship. Matt Lucas is third-generation – his grandmother fled from Nazi Germany and went on to work for the AJR as a social worker. Matt already has his German passport.
